Shelton & Williams

Shelton & Williams

Since 1975, the Critton Hollow String Band tends a stable of songs from the first settlements of Appalachia to the best of contemporary American folk music. Joe Herrmann, Sam Herrmann and Joe Fallon combine precise instrumentation, melodic interplay, and three-part harmony to create a warm and engaging sound. Their songs express a range of experience that can make you laugh or cry. Their ballads tell stories of bad men and disappointed lovers. Their instrumentals will make you want to get up and dance or sit back and listen. In every case, the music is pure joy. Celebrated bluegrass singers Johnny and Jeanette Williams (3-time SPBGMA Female Vocalist of the Year) have teamed up with returning bluegrass artist Jay Shelton. The band’s material is a variety of styles including original, classic country, gospel, blues, traditional and progressive bluegrass, and Americana. All are accomplished songwriters, and their original music is the focus of a new project that features the band’s infectious three-part harmony. Their set list will prominently feature this material plus favorites from previous releases.

2021 Fundraiser

Our goal: to raise $20,000 within the next few weeks

November 7, 2021

Dear Members, Friends and Traditional Music Lovers,

It has been another very interesting and challenging year for our organization.
As you know, our board made the decision to go forward with the 49th Delaware Valley Bluegrass Festival this year, and it was another great one.

When we made our decision in June, all signs indicated that the Covid threat was largely behind us.
As we all know, the situation then reversed itself and, although we took precautions and enjoyed a wonderful festival, the Covid-19 situation had a negative impact on our attendance, expenses and financial results.

At around this time last year we asked our members and friends to participate in a fund raiser to help sustain our organization through a challenging period, with the expectation that by now the effects of the pandemic would be a thing of the past.
Your response was outstanding and greatly helped us to present this year’s activities and programs.

However, we still face challenges in the coming year, and we are once again asking for your financial support as we continue our mission in supporting and preserving Old Time, Bluegrass and Traditional music.

Fortunately, we are resuming our 2021-2022 schedule of winter concerts, and we are already well along with our plans for the 50th Delaware Valley Bluegrass Festival on Labor Day weekend 2022.
But we can already see that our expenses will be increasing in the months ahead.

So, once again, we are asking you to consider a generous, tax-deductible, donation to The Brandywine Friends of Old Time Music so that our all-volunteer, Not-For-Profit organization will remain financially sound and able to continue pursuing its mission.

We are counting on you, our members, fans, sponsors and donors to help us reach our goal of raising $20,000 within the next few weeks.

Not only have the members of our Board of Directors given of their time and talents, but each of them will also participate in this campaign, as we hope you will.

We thank you for your past support and look forward to hearing from you very soon.

Sincerely,

Carl Goldstein, Chair, BFOTM Board of Directors

Robin & Linda Williams in Concert

Robin & Linda Williams perform a robust blend of bluegrass, old-time, folk and acoustic country that combines wryly observant lyrics with a wide ranging melodicism. As live performers they are second to none. Their stirring concerts have earned them a huge body of fans over the years. But as gifted songwriters Robin and Linda have earned an even rarer honor, the devotion and deep respect of their musical peers.

Danny Paisley & the Southern Grass in Concert

Danny Paisley & the Southern Grass play powerful, unadorned, and intense traditional bluegrass. There is no hybrid or genre-bending music here. Their combination of instrumentation and vocals convey the energy and emotion of classic bluegrass and country music. Danny’s lead vocals will captivate your senses, so much so that many prominent musicians, including Alison Krauss, have considered Danny as one of their favorite singers. His voice combines powerful range and soulful blues with a sound like no one else in bluegrass today.
